Inspired by illustrations of ancient, mythological creatures as well as models from art history and the animal world, Gertrud Grotenklas creates independent designs. With precision and attention to detail, she creates lively pictures that are often broken up by fine drawings. In addition to weaving her own pictorial designs, she also knots wire skeletons into pod-like structures by covering the intermediate surfaces line by line. She often inserts a piece of mulberry bark into this shelter before closing it. The barely deformable cocoons become bodies with their own poetry.
