Concept

Since 2019, the project „here and now – Art Brut” has offered partner workshops, ateliers and studios the opportunity to exchange ideas on an euregional and international level. The focus here is on artists with disabilities, most of whom work full-time in the art field of Art Brut.

The aim of the project is to create an exchange among the artists and thus to broaden their perception of other like-minded people and their work. This should also contribute to finding one’s own identity and consolidating one’s own skills.

Another point is integration and inclusion in the art scene. Through annual common exhibitions, artworks can be exchanged with each other across borders, so that visitors and viewers also get a diverse, international impression of artists from the field.

The focus is on seeing and understanding similarities and also differences in each other. The artistic work serves as a medium for encountering each other on different levels.

Lebenshilfe Aachen – Werkstätten und Service GmbH is pleased to commit itself to the implementation of this project and is therefore supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science within the programme of the Regionale Kulturpolitik (Regional Cultural Policy).

The project over the years

The first collaborations for exhibitions took place under the name "Crossroad Art" as early as 2013 in Belgium.

2013

In 2019, pictures of the partners were exhibited for the first time in Cuba at Studio Riera. In the same year, a joint workweek took place in Aachen (DE), where artists also worked together in preparation for a common exhibition.

2019

In 2020, because of Covid 19, no international meeting took place. So inclusive workshops and an exhibition with the art of the partners as well as artists without handicap took place in Kronenburg (DE).

2020

In 2021, we looked for a digital way to present ourselves together across borders. This barrier-free website should give an impression of the artists with disabilities and put their art in focus.

2021

In 2022, another common meeting with exchange and exhibition is planned.
